Inspiring young women into STEM

Passion, Possibilities and Perspective – women from a range of different careers working in STEM came together to share their journeys, advice, education and workplace experiences with Year 10 girls from South Gippsland. The event was delivered part of the STEM Sisters program and aims to encourage young women into considering a STEM pathway.

Guest speaker Dr Amy Cosby spoke about STEM technologies such as GPS and accelerometers being used on cattle in the agricultural industry. Biomedicine student Gemma Martin had the students jumping around in an activity to learn about the behaviour of bacteria and viruses. A discussion panel was also held with Dr Rebecca McIntosh, Louise Piljic and Annie Cox who spoke to the audience about their career pathways and experiences in the workplace.

A massive congratulations to Year 11 students Isla, Maddie and Shakira from Leongatha Secondary College. These students completed the STEM Sisters program in 2018 and were MCs for the event.

Thanks to all the industry partners for their generosity in supporting this event.
