Industries engage with us in many ways to help students build the skills, knowledge  and aspirations needed to successfully transition from school to further education and training or employment.

Industry Partnerships

Industry partnerships help us to integrate work with learning, increase awareness about local jobs and pathways and increase knowledge of local skills needs. Our work in supporting young people relies on our collaboration with industry, government, schools and community.

Host a student placement

VCE or VCAL students completing a certificate course at TAFE or other training provider need to undertake work experience called a ‘Structured Workplace Learning’ (SWL) placement. This includes school-based apprentices and trainees.

You can become a host employer to help train a young person in your community, promote your business, identify potential future employees and build your staff training and mentoring skills.

There have been many success stories where local SWL students have been hired by a host employer.

STEM Sisters Project

Help young women choose Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM).

Our STEM Sisters project is aimed at Year 10 girls from across South Gippsland and Bass Coast schools. The aim is to engage participants in a wide range of activities so girls can build skills, knowledge and aspirations to encourage them to select STEM subjects and careers.

STEM Sister Ambassadors

STEM Sister Ambassadors are women working in STEM fields. Ambassadors can get involved in one or more activities to help mentor students.

Activities may include:

  • Attend an Inspiring Young STEM Sisters event where you will mentor students by sharing your career journey and answer questions about your career and experiences over lunch and activities. You may also like to be a guest speaker at this event.
  • Mentor students on a research project specific to your field of work. Some of our past ambassadors have mentored students on seal research, medical research and anaerobic digestion research.
  • Become a guest speaker. Some of our ambassadors have become guest speakers for events and invited to schools to speak and run activities.
