What is Broadening Horizons?

The Broadening Horizons Program provides real-world learning opportunities for secondary students, connecting them with local industry and creating a pathway for work experience and valuable insights into the world of work.

How?

An innovative program that brings industry and secondary students together through meaningful partnerships for mutual benefit.

The program provides students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 with the opportunity to partner with local industry and employers to develop enterprise skills, explore possible career options and understand employer expectations.

Originally developed in 2013 to support higher levels of student engagement and retention across Gippsland. In 2024 the program is being reimagined to create a pathway approach for students that prepares them for work experience programs and encourages greater student engagement with industry, through the Gippsland Region’s transition towards a more sustainable community with a focus on clean energy and other priority industries.

Through the program, secondary school students gain an insight into industry practices, an understanding of what industry exists in and around Gippsland, possible career opportunities and an enquiry-based mindset.

Gippsland East LLLEN, South Gippsland Bass Coast LLEN and Baw Baw Latrobe LLEN are delivering the program across Gippsland.
