The South Gippsland I Am Ready Program has successfully wrapped up for the term, with nine students from four local schools completing the eight-week journey. Hosted at TAFE Gippsland in Leongatha, the program offered a mix of practical skill-building, career exploration, and personal development aimed at preparing young people for the world of work.
Over the first four weeks, students engaged in inspiring workshops delivered by guest presenters. These included a motivational session from Ben Corcoran, who shared his powerful lived experience, as well as speakers from Victoria Police, SJD Homes, and Joe the Barista.
Participants also had the opportunity to explore local workplaces through guided tours of McDonald’s, Mitre 10, and Woolworths. These excursions provided valuable insight into entry-level job roles and helped students learn what it’s like to work in different industries.
A key feature of the program was preparing students for job interviews and presentation. Students were supported with a shopping trip to purchase professional interview attire and took part in employment readiness sessions delivered by Maxima Australia Group. The final week culminated in mock interviews with representatives from CUC Bass Coast, Maxima, and SGBCLLEN, giving students the chance to put their new skills into practice in a supportive setting.
Well done to everyone who participated!
