South Gippsland Bass Coast P2E students visited service providers and toured workplaces in Wonthaggi. Students worked in teams to visit Centrelink, Bendigo Bank, Work Solutions Gippsland and Bass Coast Library. The aim was for students to find out about each organisation and the different services available to young people.
It was also a great opportunity for students to demonstrate the employability skills they have been learning in the P2E program including, self introductions, interview techniques, communication and teamwork.
After visiting local service providers, participants were taken on a behind the scenes tour of Wonthaggi Workmen’s Club. and Wonthaggi Bunnings. Workplace tour guides Rod and Josh educated students about different job roles within the industry, training and licensing requirements, working within a diverse team, technology in the workplace, plant and machinery, recruitment and career pathways.
A big thank you to the people and teams who generously gave up their time to support learning beyond the classroom. Industry partnerships form an important part of curriculum support and successful outcomes for young people. It also helps to build student confidence and raise aspirations.
Thanks to all those involved – Andrew and the team at Work Solutions Gippsland, Dean Cuman – Branch Manager Bendigo Bank, the team at Bass Coast Library, Patrick and Stacey Centrelink, Rod Bye General Manager Workmen’s Club, Josh Elliot – Assistant Store Manager Bunnings, Belinda Harry Bass Coast Health and our staff and teachers Caroline, Jess & Barry.
